Does Change Need to Be Difficult? Navigating the Waters of Transformation

Does change need to be so difficult
Does change need to be so difficult

Change usually comes in two forms: it is either a course we’ve charted ourselves or a storm that has been thrust upon us.

Often, the most frustrating "forced" changes occur because we were already hesitating. Even when we recognise that a situation is no longer serving us, we cling to the status quo out of a sense of loyalty or a fear of disruption. We wait until the universe forces our hand, making the transition feel far more violent than it needed to be.

The Illusion of the "Easy Way"

I once travelled through the Greek Islands with a sailor who told me: “Life is difficult enough, therefore we must do easy things.” It’s seductive advice, but in the long run, it rarely works. Taking the "easy way" usually means avoiding the very adjustments that would actually make our lives simpler. It isn't the change itself that exhausts us; it is the 'anxiety loop'—the endless "what ifs" that convince us the change will be catastrophic.

In reality, once we stop avoiding and start initiating, we find that life becomes infinitely "nicer." A few adjustments in our behaviours, spending habits, or relationship decisions can clear the fog and open up a horizon of new opportunities.

The Subconscious Anchor: Why We Stay Stuck

If change is so beneficial, why do we fight it? The answer lies in our patterns of thought and behaviour. Most of our resistance is stored in the subconscious mind, acting like an anchor we’ve forgotten to lift.

This is where hypnosis becomes a powerful tool for transformation.

Despite the myths, there is nothing mystical or "spooky" about hypnosis. It is a grounded psychological process. Think of it as a negotiation with your subconscious mind—an honest conversation where you ask for permission to let go of old patterns.

A Different Approach: Non-Trance Hypnosis

The type of hypnosis I practice is a non-trance method. This means:

  • You remain fully aware: You aren’t "going under" or losing control.
  • Active Engagement: You are a conscious participant in the negotiation.
  • Rapid Results: Because we are addressing the subconscious directly, big shifts in thought patterns can happen quickly and successfully.

The Ripple Effect of Change

When you address one core block through hypnosis, the results are rarely isolated. It creates a ripple effect throughout your entire life. By training your mind to navigate change more effectively, you’ll find improvements in areas you didn't even realise were connected:

  • Better sleep as the anxiety loop quietens.
  • Decreased fear when faced with major life decisions.
  • Enhanced confidence in public speaking or social settings.
  • A sense of agency over your own future.

Initiating change helps you feel less disrupted and more in command. By lifting the anchor of the subconscious, you stop drifting and start sailing toward the life you were meant to lead.
